Entry requirements

In order to be admitted to the Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Highways) applicants must meet:either:
The normal admission requirements listed under Clause 5.1.1;
or:
The special admission requirements listed under Clause 5.1.2;
and:
The English language requirements listed under Clause 5.1.3.
Normal minimum admission requirements
The applicant must:
(i) have an appropriate (e.g. engineering, science, geology or similar) degree or higher tertiary qualification,

and:
(ii) satisfy the Programme Manager, with advice from academic staff, that grades achieved in previous qualifications, especially in mathematics, are deemed sufficient to ensure successful completion of the programme.
Special admission
Notwithstanding the above admission categories, in special circumstances applicants who are able to show evidence of an ability to succeed in the programme may be considered for admission, provided that:
(i) They have completed a qualification from another tertiary provider deemed by the Programme Manager to bring them to the required academic entry level;
Or
(ii) In the opinion of the Programme Manager, with advice from other academic staff or National Advisory Committee members, have equivalent knowledge and skills; previous and ongoing life or work experience; or other formal or
informal study, comparable with the requirements of Clause 5.1.1, together with strong likelihood of successful programme completion.
A student entering the Graduate Diploma programme under the above provisions may be required to follow an approved introductory course of study as a pre-requisite or co-requisite.
English Language
In addition, the following requirements apply to applicants in both admission categories:
Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions is not English are required to provide evidence of having passed such tests of English language competence as detailed in Policy and Procedure English Language Proficiency.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The GradDipEng(Highways) is a 120 credit one-year (full-time equivalent) qualification designed to provide holders of non-civil engineering qualifications an opportunity to acquire technical knowledge in highway engineering and general knowledge of applied management.
