About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
Graduates will be knowledgeable and skilled in analysing current issues surrounding Antarctica and in developing suitable responses to a wide range of Antarctic affairs. They will appreciate the multiple dimensions of Antarctic issues and will be able to consider them from not only a scientific but also a political, cultural and social perspective. The students will have a solid understanding of the multi-disciplinary character of Antarctic research, they will be able to plan and undertake Antarctic research projects independently and will have extensive knowledge of current issues surrounding Antarctica including an undertaking of the international legal system that governs Antarctica. Graduates will have undertaken an evaluation of critical arguments concerning Antarctica in a wider international context and will be able to position they research projects and interests within a contextual understanding of the Antarctic Treaty System, New Zealand's obligations within the Treaty System ad their implications for any human activities in Antarctica. They will be able to apply the knowledge and skills gained to novel problems and within different national and cultural contexts.
