What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for learners who are seeking to develop a range of essential skills and knowledge in the skin care, beauty and related industries.
These sectors will benefit by having access to graduates with the skills and knowledge to competently and safely undertake a range of essential skin care and make-up services within workplaces where skin care, make-up and other cosmetics products are applied and sold.
Graduates of this qualification will have developed practical application of knowledge and skills in preparation for further study but will also be capable of working with initial supervision in a skin care and beauty context.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

To gain entry to the New Zealand Certificate in Makeup and Skin Care (Level 3) programme domestic and international students will be required to: Show evidence of successful completion of National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA)(Level 1) or equivalent; and complete a diagnostic assessment either prior to or in the first two weeks of their study to ensure students have adequate literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to meet all academic, health and safety requirements of their programme, and to enable appropriate support to be provided; and provide evidence of ability to complete academic requirements. Special admission Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements may be given special admission if they can provide evidence that they are capable of achieving the programme outcomes. Special admission may also apply for applicants over 20 years. International Students In addition to meeting the programme entry requirements, international students must: Have evidence of receipt of an appropriate visa; and Be over 18 years of age (applicants between the ages of 14 and 18 years will only be accepted after an assessment of the student s support systems has been made) International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS general or academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) The Table.
