What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification provides the commercial road transport industry with people who have the knowledge and skills required to safely and competently operate heavy rigid vehicles or heavy combination vehicles.
The qualification is designed for new or current heavy vehicle drivers who wish to gain skills and knowledge beyond those required to be a licence holder.
Graduates will be able to work under limited supervision.
This qualification does not permit the holder to drive a motor vehicle on New Zealand roads without a current relevant driver licence issued by the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

Minimum requirements
To enroll in this programme it is expected that learners must: * On entry into the programme if it is the intention of the learner to gain a Class 2 Full Driver's License as part of the programme, the learner must: Have held their Class 1 Full Driver's License for a minimum period of 6 months, Be able to pass the required medical examination Gain a leaner licence for Class 2 (this will be organized as part of the programme structure) * On entry into the programme if it is the intention of the learner to gain a Class 4 Full Driver's Licence as part of the programme, the leaner must: Have held their Class 2 Full Driver's Licence for a minimum of 6 months (or at least 3 months if the learner is aged 25 years or over) Be able to pass the required medical examination * On entry into the programme if it is the intention of the learner to gain a Class 5 Full Driver's Licence as part of the programme, the learner must: Have held their Class 4 Full Driver's Licence for at least 6 months (or at least 3 months if the learner is aged 25 years or over) Be able to pass the required medical examination Gain a learner licence for Class 5, unless this was previously completed for a Class 3 Licence (the learner licence will be organized as part of the programme structure) * Be physically capable of undertaking all practical tasks associated with the commercial road transport industry environment * Have existing knowledge and skills in numeracy and literacy at a level appropriate to succeeding on this Level 3 programme and for employment in a commercial transport industry environment. Literacy and numeracy will be assessed at an early stage of the program
