About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the maritime industry with people who have the skills necessary to take charge of, and maintain, the safety of vessels of less than 24 metres in length operating within restricted limits under the Maritime NZ Seafarer Certification and Operational Limits Framework.
The qualification is for people working as deck crew or people with suitable experience as a skipper on a recreational vessel intending to progress to the role of skipper on a restricted limits vessel.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Academic requirements There are no minimum academic requirements for entry. English language requirements All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. Those students whose first language is not English should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 5.5 (with no band score lower than 5.0) issued within the last two years, or equivalent. Other requirements It is recommended that applicants be currently employed within a commercial maritime operation and/or have ongoing access to commercial vessels and MNZ qualified skippers to assist with your completion of the MNZ Workbook to WDSFS approval Prior to commencing the programme, a Criminal History consent form must be supplied. A drug and alcohol test may be required prior to commencing study.
