About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the equine industry with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to manage the care and exercise of horses in training for the sporthorse sector of the equine industry.

Graduates will be capable of working under minimum supervision with responsibility for work outcomes and will be able to contribute effectively and professionally in the workplace.

Minimum requirements

All applicants need to provide evidence of riding ability through video submission Video must include; The horse you intend to bring to the course Minimum of 5 minute footage of walk, trot and canter under saddle, on both reins If the applicant is not bringing a horse, the applicant must include a short video of them riding. The tutor can then match the applicant with an appropriate lease horse. In addition to the video submission all applicants must provide a LETTER with; history of their riding and experience. Applicants who intend to bring their own horse must include; horses biography, which will include age, experience, temperament, how long they have owned/ ridden the horse to determine suitability if the horse for the course. All applicants must provide a letter of reference detailing their riding experience and level from an instructor or similar with their contact details present. All applicants will be expected to be able to financially support the care of their horse, either lease or owned, including but not limited to feed, farrier costs, veterinary care and insurance. All applicants will also need to have the physical ability to work safely around horses and machinery and be experienced riders that can rise to the trot and can canter. Right of entry into programmes of study is restricted by SIT and apparent eligibility may not lead to automatic acceptance. Applicants must demonstrate attributes which in the assessment of SIT should lead to success.
