About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide competent employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.
- To provide a credential for those employed as chefs in intermediate positions, that will enhance their employment opportunities in a commercial kitchen across the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for complex cookery that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate in a commercial kitchen as chefs in an intermediate position producing complex dishes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Candidates must be employed for a minimum of 24 hours per week in a WelTec approved hospitality business in an appropriate position (e.g. Kitchen Assistant, Commis Chef, Junior Chef or similar role). AND 60 Credits at NCEA Level 1 including 10 NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10 NCEA Level 1 numeracy credits or; equivalent (International: IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no band lower than 5, or equivalent).
