Making money out of honey

Blanche Morrogh, CEO Kai Ora Honey: We are honey producers and we specialise in Mānuka honey which we export around the world.

Our father, he had done many businesses before. You know - tourism, farming, fisheries - so when he found the honey, on his dying bed, he begged us pretty much, to not let this one go.

Who would have thought that, you know, six kids from up in Te Hapua that were raised in a house that had no power and gravity fed water, whereas now, we're sharing what we have learnt with the world.

So I guess for Kai Ora the trickle down effect into our small community is significant. One of the things that we never forget is where we come from. The people who have supported us to get here - that's our whānau, our hapū, our iwi.

If I ever go to have talks to our rangatahi (young people), generally I want to talk about courage. I want to talk about determination.

I definitely want to talk about being proud of where you are, and who you are and where you come from.
