About MyQ

What is MyQ?

MyQ is an online graduate satisfaction survey. It gathers feedback from recent graduates about their tertiary and qualification experience. When the minimum response rate has been met, these results are published on each qualification page.

Why do I need to know this information?

You can use MyQ results to support and inform your decisions about tertiary enrolment, along with other information you may find.

MyQ is just one of many tools available and not the only source of information. You should also look at the Key Information for Students details, talk to family and friends, and check out other online information.

What do these results tell me?

MyQ results can give you an insight into recent graduates’ feedback at a subject level, as well as about the qualification they completed. MyQ results are displayed at two levels: national and detailed.

Remember

  • The results reflect the opinions of graduates who have chosen to take the survey. The number of respondents should be considered when making comparisons across qualifications or tertiary education organisations.
  • We only publish detailed survey results when the margin of error is below 13%. This ensures the statistics presented are reliable, based on the recommendations of independent research companies.

National results

The results at a national level are all the MyQ responses combined for qualifications at the same level and in the same subject area.

Overall satisfaction

The percentage of recent graduates who were satisfied with the qualifications they completed in this subject area.

Work preparedness

The percentage of recent graduates who were satisfied that the qualifications they completed in this subject area helped them become work ready.

Career progress

The percentage of recent graduates who were satisfied that the qualifications they completed in this subject area helped their career progress.

Career prospects

The percentage of recent graduates who were satisfied that the qualifications they completed in this subject area improved their chances of getting a job.

Knowledge used

The percentage of recent graduates, currently in employment, who feel they are using the knowledge and skills gained from completing qualifications in this subject area.

Remember

  • National results relate to the subject area and level and are not specific to one qualification.
  • The subject area is based on the NZSCED classification that allows the qualification to be grouped together into that subject area.
  • The detailed MyQ results show how recent graduates felt about their specific qualification and tertiary experience.

Detailed results

The results at a detailed level are displayed for specific qualifications delivered by a specific provider, if available.

How are results calculated?

MyQ results are calculated by aggregating the positive responses i.e., responses selected that are 3 or above on the scale, then dividing the number of positive responses by the total responses.
The results for scaled questions also show the number of responses for each score.

Why are there no MyQ results for a qualification I am interested in?

We only display results that have been provided within the last three years. This ensures all MyQ information is current.

There may not be any results on a qualification page if:

  • there have not been enough survey responses from graduates to enable the MyQ results to be published yet as the publication threshold has not been met
  • the qualification is no longer being offered
  • the provider has decided not to display MyQ results for their qualifications
  • the qualification is not funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC)
  • the qualification is provided by an Industry Training Organisation (ITO).

Remember

  • You will only see MyQ results for qualifications that graduates have rated.
  • A tertiary provider may choose not to have their survey results published.

How many survey responses are needed before MyQ results are published?

MyQ results are published based on the graduate pool size for each qualification.

At the detailed level, you will find the graduate pool size and how many MyQ responses were collated for each qualification below the detailed level results heading.

Graduate pool
(Number of graduates that completed the qualification in the last 3 years)

Number of verified responses required to publish MyQ results
250+ graduates 50
51–250 graduates 25
50 or fewer graduates 5

Remember

  • We will only publish MyQ results for a specific qualification if the margin of error is below 13%, regardless of response rate.
  • The margin of error determines reliability and shows the level of certainty in the results i.e., the higher the response rate and satisfaction, the lower the margin of error will be.
  • We are applying a margin of error of below 13% so the published results are an accurate representation of satisfaction for a qualification.

How do I know if the information provided is up to date?

We only display results that have been provided within the last three years. This ensures all MyQ information is current.

Remember

  • MyQ results expire and are removed from publication three years after a survey response has been verified for inclusion in the published results.

How do I know if the information provided is accurate?

MyQ is an opinion-based survey and opinions can vary considerably. All individual responses have been aggregated to give you an overall impression of each qualification.

Remember

  • MyQ is just one of many tools available and not the only source of information for learners.
  • You should also look at the Key Information for Students details, talk to family and friends, and check other online information.
